The art of home décor is a learned skill. It takes time and trial-and-error to get your home looking just the way you would like. Thankfully, you don’t need to spend tons of money on an interior designer to spruce up your space. Simply follow these tips on accent pillows for every room, and you will be one step ahead of the game.
Perhaps the simplest way to make the most of a room is by adding or enhancing with color. For example, if your bedroom mostly consists of white sheets and beige walls, consider a pair of brightly colored throw pillows to arrange on the bedspread for a burst of style. Should your living room be furnished with earthy tones such as brown or tan, then enhance that sense of the outdoors with pillows in green, orange, and yellow. Try to think seasonally about what colors you put down—bright blues and teal in the summer, or maroon and amber in the winter.
Throw pillows largely come in one of three basic shapes: square, rectangular, and round. While many take this obvious fact for granted, there are certain design elements that can be utilized by selecting the right shape to put in the right place. Longer, rectangular pillows on a loveseat of equal dimensions gives a sense of symmetry, while placing a large square pillow on one side of an accent bench provides asymmetrical comfort. Round pillows on a contemporary sofa with hard lines can soften the scenery with an eye-catching play on basic geometry.
Lastly, the way your home décor is textured can work wonders into the overall aesthetic of your space. An accent pillow with braided cords or a fringe can be used to offset a smooth leather recliner for an enticing look. Faux animal fur or skins can make an otherwise dull dining room appear rustic and old-fashioned. Try using a multi-layered or cable-knit accent pillow on a chaise with flat upholstery to provide depth.
With these tips, you are on your way to becoming your own personal interior design.
